Generally it’s possible to say, that for painting icons and frescos iconpainters and iconpainter workshops used material and tools available in working region. Nowadays it’s possible to get material in specialized stores for restorers or art tackle stores that are provided with goods from all over the world. The material and tool choose, its quality and characteristic is very important external factor that effects the final work. Even the best iconpainters aren’t able to paint icon with bad paintbrushes or unsuitable pigment or on a badly prepared surface. That’s why it’s very important to consult the material and tool choice with practically experienced people.
